The baby's gender is determined at birth, so save your game beforehand if you want to try for a specific gender. For twins, ensure the pregnant Sim consumes plenty of spaghetti or cheesecake. Note that the baby will be lost if the pregnant Sim dies or becomes an elder. Expect three days of maternity/paternity leave before and after the birth.

Removing Children from a Household

Neglect can lead to Child Protective Services intervention. A social worker will remove babies, toddlers, and children if they're in danger (e.g., starvation, drowning) or orphaned (no adult or elder supervision). The only way to prevent this is if the adult Sim has the Family aspiration benefit, allowing them to plead for another chance. Removed children are placed into the adoption system.

Adopting Children
