Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – For Whom the Bell Tolls: A Step-by-Step Guide
This guide will walk you through the "For Whom the Bell Tolls" quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, helping you rescue Hans within the 12-hour time limit. This quest requires careful planning and execution of several tasks.
Initial Tasks:
Begin by completing your assigned tasks within the castle. This involves transporting sacks from a wagon to a nearby shed and forging a horseshoe for the stablehand. These are straightforward and should be done first.
Note: If you previously completed the miller's questline, you may have a separate quest to find a book within the castle. This can only be completed after rescuing Hans, so postpone it.
Accessing the Castle:
There are two approaches to reaching the chapel (your next objective):
The Apothecary's Role:
Once you reach the chapel, you'll discover the key witness is ill, and the apothecary is absent. You must now create the necessary medicine.
Gathering Ingredients:
Return to the kitchen and proceed to the other kitchen (south side, upper floor). A guard may block your path, but the Chamberlain's permission should allow passage (or you can feed the guard).
Head to the apothecary's quarters (marked on your compass). You'll encounter a thief attempting to open a chest. While you can interact with her, it's optional. The chest contains alchemy ingredients, but it's locked. You'll need lockpicks.
Acquiring Lockpicks and the Recipe:
Examine the apothecary's diary (on the bookshelf) for the fever-reducing potion recipe: 3 feverdew, 2 ginger, 1 elderberry leaf. The chest containing the ingredients is easily unlocked, once you have lockpicks.
To obtain lockpicks, speak to the blacksmith (near where you carried the sacks). He will direct you to a red pot near the forge where the lockpicks are located. You can obtain them even without speaking to the blacksmith, but it's better to do so to avoid theft accusations.
Brewing the Potion:
Once you have all ingredients and lockpicks, brew the potion following the recipe in the diary. Accuracy in ingredient amounts is crucial, but the boiling time is less critical.
Completing the Quest:
With the potion brewed, return to the chapel, give the potion to the ill individual, and the quest will conclude. A Cinematic will reveal Hans's fate. You will recover your belongings, receive a new bed, and possibly a horse.
