Starting "The Root of the Problem"

Speak to the Elder at Mossbug Farm in The Outskirts to initiate "The Root of the Problem," a hunt for a Backstabber. The quest, found under the "Boss" tab, details crop destruction and a trail leading to Backstabber Cave.

Defeating the Backstabber Mother

Clear the path of Backstabber Pups and confront the Backstabber Mother. Dodge her initial jump attack and exploit her weakness to poison weapons and Elementa. She'll flee to her cave after losing approximately 33% health.

Backstabber Mother – Phase Two

Inside the cave, the Backstabber Mother's health remains as it was when she fled. Evade her two-hit quill slam attack. Use ranged attacks when she's open. Block quills with your shield and dodge her rolling attack (red markers). Step back from her red-glowing ground attack to avoid electric damage. Counterattack during her electric attack or after her rolling attack.

After defeating her, interact with the marked spot to find a non-hostile Backstabber Pup. Escort the pup past Mudwyrms back to Mossbug Farm (fast travel is an option).
