In "Dynasty Warriors: Origins", ancient coins are the main collectibles. These artifacts from previous dynasties are scattered across China and have no monetary value in themselves but serve as proof of Zi Luan's esteem. There are five hundred ancient coins to collect over the course of multiple playthroughs of story mode, and finding them all requires patience and skill.
When you first start the game, it is best to develop the habit of looking for ancient coins everywhere. The faster you collect them, the more rewards you can use in future battles.
In "Dynasty Warriors: Origins", there are three main ways to collect ancient coins:
A limited number of ancient coins are hidden on the world map. Unlike other resources such as Tourmaline and Moongrass, these Ancient Coins do not respawn; can only be collected once.
They are hard to spot unless you are standing next to the Ancient Coin, but they are easy to spot when looking around using the Eye of the Divine Bird. Whenever you unlock a new province, the first thing you should do is activate the Eye of the Bird and check everywhere for hidden ancient coins.
Some side missions offered by your fellow officers will reward ancient coins. As the story progresses, find new characters to talk to on the world map. Even a simple task like advancing the Bond storyline can net you some ancient coins.
You can easily see who can talk by hovering over each province on the map menu, or by checking the Interactions tab (see below). Some characters don't appear until you read the letter they sent.
When you reach the end of the game, be sure to complete all side missions before restarting the game. This way you won't have to go back to the end from the beginning of Chapter 5 later.
After completing the main story, you will unlock the Ultimate General Difficulty. Playing a mission on Ultimate Warrior difficulty (either for the first time or starting over from the Inn) adds an optional challenge, usually related to completing an objective quickly or defeating a powerful character within certain limits.
Rewards for Ultimate Warrior Challenges vary, but many challenges offer Ten Ancient Coins. If you want to get the Ares Belt that collects all 500 ancient coins, you have to work hard to get it.
Ancient coins can be exchanged at Shuijing Courtyard located next to Youzhou Inn on the northern edge of the map. Once inside the building, select the Ancient Coin option; you will see a screen with all available rewards and claim any rewards earned since your last visit.
You don’t need to spend ancient coins; just reach each collection level to receive rewards.
Usually, the only way to check the reward threshold is to visit the other courtyard. To save time, you can refer to the table below:
