Your trusty sketchbook becomes your key to recreating this architectural heritage. By sketching furniture found within these ruins, you can later craft exact replicas on your home island. See something you like? Sketch it, then build it!
Early in Aloft, during the Forgotten Legacy quest, you'll encounter the ruins of what appears to be a home. Initially, your crafting menu offers basic wooden flooring and walls, allowing you to start designing and personalizing your island.
However, as you explore, you'll hopefully discover a sketchbook within chests and baskets scattered throughout the abandoned settlements. This allows you to sketch furniture encountered in the wild. While not every item is replicable, a sketchbook and a single sheet of paper unlock a wealth of crafting possibilities.
You can craft paper pulp at a workbench using one grasswort, three small plants, and one clean water; or collect paper from books found in these ruins.
With your sketchbook equipped and sketching mode activated, aim your cursor at furniture or building structures. Sketch-able items highlight in orange; those you already know how to craft appear gray, preventing wasted paper.
Prioritize sketching furniture like:
But don't overlook the building structures themselves! You can replicate wooden elements like curved walls and circular platforms, as well as a variety of stone structures found in temple and castle ruins. Note the shapes of walls, flooring, fences, and door frames – all customizable. Many wooden materials have stone counterparts, and plenty of turf roofing options are available.
Once sketched, new furniture recipes are immediately added to your construction menu, permanently unlocking them for this save.
