Spears are the first weapon type that you'll unlock besides the standard sword in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, and they offer a lot of flexibility that makes them a great choice for new players. Their long reach means that sweep and thrust attacks will hit lots of enemies in front of you, and it will be harder for enemy officers to evade your strikes.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins - Complete Guide To Spears

Using spears effectively means alternating between Normal and Heavy attacks, and choosing Battle Arts that fit your play style. Even once you unlock other weapons, spears make a great fallback option, since they can handle most situations very well.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins - Complete Guide To Spears

Spears can do a little bit of everything, but their main feature is keeping enemies a safe distance away from you. When you've got a spear equipped, chances are you can hit your foes from further away than they can hit you.

The base Normal Attack combo maximum for spears is 4, and it upgrades to 6 as soon as you gain your first Proficiency level with the weapon.

3x Heavy Attack, then mash Heavy Attack button. Short combo, then flurry attack while stationary.
Hold Heavy Attack button. Charged sweep attack with some forward movement.
Heavy Attack during a Normal Attack. Interrupt combo to knock back nearby enemies.
Hold Heavy Attack during a Normal Attack. Interrupt combo to go straight into charged sweep attack (see above)
Heavy Attack while blocking. Launch nearby enemies.
Hold Heavy Attack while blocking. Launch nearby enemies and yourself. Learned at Spear Proficiency 3.
Normal Attack (midair). Spear sweep, remain airborne.
Heavy Attack (midair or from horseback). AoE smash attack directly below your current position. Dismounts if done from horseback.
Left Stick Heavy Attack during a dodge. Multiple thrust attacks in the direction of the Left Stick immediately after the dodge animation ends.
Left Stick Hold Heavy Attack during a dodge. AoE ground slam in the direction of the Left Stick immediately after the dodge animation ends. Learned at Spear Proficiency 3.

Spear Combat Tips

Unless you're trying to complete a Training Objective given to you by an NPC, Normal Attack combos should be more than enough to get the job done against regular soldiers. This is doubly true if you have the Oblivion Gem equipped, which increases the spear's already-exceptional range.

Charged Sweeps and Aerial Smashes are great openers when you first engage a squad; for the former, just hold the button and wait for the enemy to come to you, timing it so that they walk right into your spear. If you're the one advancing, make a mouted charge into the middle of the enemy ranks then leap off with an Aerial Smash to start things off.

Dodge combos give the spear some much needed mobility, especially if you're too overwhelmed to get away on horseback.

The real standout of the spear moveset, though, is the Thrust Flurry. A combo of three heavy attacks, followed up by a multi-hit, is enough to take out nearly any regular soldier caught in it, and it puts a dent in officers too. However, the attacks are slow, which means that officers can interrupt your combo if you aren't carfeul.

The best use of the Thrust Flurry is to have it follow a Special Art like Palm Strike or Aerial Assault; if you've interrupted an enemy's own Battle Art, they'll be stunned long enough that you don't need to worry about them countering, and your combo should remove one to two of their Fortitude Shields, potentially setting up a finisher.

Best Spear Build

Dynasty Warriors: Origins - Complete Guide To Spears

Using the right build takes spears from good to great, and unlike some other weapon types, there are a couple of viable options that you can use. As with any weapon, pick the highest-grade spear available in your current chapter. You don't need to go straight for the highest Attack Power, however - pay attention to the weapon's traits. Bonuses to Heavy Attack damage are especially useful.

Recommended Gems

The Oblivion Gem is by far the best Gem for a spear build in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Since it increases weapon reach by a percentage, the spear gets a lot more benefit from a high-level Oblivion Gem than, say, Gauntlets or Wheels.

On the other hand, if you haven't leveled up your Oblivion Gem, or if the spear's base reach is enough for your purposes, the Vortex Gem and Scorch Gem are worthwhile alternatives. Since the spear has an easy launch attack thanks to its Block Heavy strike, you can combine the Vortex Gem with area effect arts like Dance of the Whirlwind to deal impressive damage.

The Scorch Gem enhances your parry damage, which combos well with the fact that many high-level spears make parrying easier.

Recommended Battle Arts

Once you reach Proficiency 4 with spears, equip Aerial Assault and keep it equipped. As a Special Art, it lets you interrupt orange attacks, and it also includes a backwards dodge, which keeps you out of harm's way if it misses. The Bravery cost is a little steep until you've reached Master Rank or higher, so equip Palm Strike in another slot to have a cheap Special Art to use in emergencies.

For a high-Bravery finisher, Dance Of The Whirlwind and Dragon Flash are both excellent choices that can be unlocked simply by leveling up your spear Proficiency. In the meantime, Savage Thrust Barrage is a good placeholder that you can unlock fairly early by raising the Peace rating of Liang Province.

Your last slot should be an all-around Battle Art that fits your build. A good idea is to make your selection based on your chosen Gem:

The Scorch Gem/Piercing Vengeance build is a good pick if you struggle with parry timing in general. Just use Piercing Vengeance as an enemy winds up to attack, and your character will handle the rest!

mPDF

mPDF is a PHP library that can generate PDF files from UTF-8 encoded HTML. The original author, Ian Back, wrote mPDF to output PDF files "on the fly" from his website and handle different languages. It is slower than original scripts like HTML2FPDF and produces larger files when using Unicode fonts, but supports CSS styles etc. and has a lot of enhancements. Supports almost all languages, including RTL (Arabic and Hebrew) and CJK (Chinese, Japanese and Korean). Supports nested block-level elements (such as P, DIV),
