Magneto is one of the most powerful Vanguard units in Marvel Rivals as his ability to absorb damage and swing it back at enemies makes him a terror across all ranks. Whenever a Magneto is on the enemy team, he makes ally DPS units uncomfortable, making it difficult to win games.
The biggest problem with Magneto is that he can not only place his damage absorption shields on himself but also on allies, which makes target selection a problem in fights. If you're struggling to fight against Magneto, this guide will ensure you're ready irrespective of the class you might be playing.
Magneto's two primary abilities are Iron Bulwark and Metal Bulwark, which place a bubble shield on either himself or allies depending on which one you use. Whenever you hit a unit with that shield, it provides Magneto with stacks that charge his Mag Cannon. This Mag Cannon, when fired, deals damage based on how much the shields absorbed.
The best way to deal with Magneto is by playing around his cooldowns. You have to understand that he cannot put the bubble shield on himself and his allies simultaneously since they have a shared cooldown. This means you can either hit Magneto or his allies, thereby creating openings.
Never hit an enemy who is protected by Magneto's shields as you'll be providing him with stacks. Finally, stuns are your best friend as he is completely disabled, and thereby you can hit him freely. He is also pretty weak against melee heroes (Magik and Thor) who can hit very hard and, considering his bubble shield has a very long cooldown, he becomes quite vulnerable.
Never use your powerful projectiles when Magneto charges his ultimate as it can absorb the incoming bullets and become even more powerful. This means characters like Hela, Punisher, and Hawkeye should hold onto their attacks whenever you see Magneto's ultimate.
There are quite a few Strategists who can deal pretty well with Magneto. The best units for this task are Luna Snow and Mantis as the former can freeze Magneto while the latter can put him to sleep, thereby creating openings for your team.
Be careful playing as Mantis against Magneto, as the latter is good at dealing with ranged champions, even though the former's sleep ability acts as a hard counter.
Cloak and Dagger is also pretty good against Magneto as they can blind him with the Terror Cape ability, thereby making it hard for the latter to play effectively. Once blinded, his game plan will be disrupted, and he will be forced to use his shields on himself. This will open up Magneto's allies for damage, thereby leaving him isolated.
Two powerful Vanguard units can easily deal with Magento. The best ones to consider are Hulk and Thor, both of whom can get into melee range and make it difficult for Magneto to fight back.
This is because even though he can block incoming damage with the bubble shields, melee heroes can hit infinitely and Magneto's bubbles have a very long cooldown. Once the bubble is down, he has no way to protect himself and both Thor and Hulk can shine with their plethora of melee attacks.
Additionally, Hulk's Gamma Burst ability can stun Magneto once his bubble shield is gone, thereby leaving the latter vulnerable.
Similar to Vanguards, melee Duelists are the best counter to Magneto. The best ones to consider are Magik and Iron Fist who can get into Magneto's face and shut him down even before he has a chance to charge up his Mag Cannon. Both Magik and Iron Fist also have abilities to sustain themselves, which means they can go toe-to-toe against Magneto in a direct duel.
Spider-Man is also very good against Magneto as not only can the former deal high damage but his mobility and capability to stun with his ultimate and Get Over Here abilities create chaos for the latter. Black Panther is also decent against Magneto, though you'll have to learn the former's combos to play him effectively.
Psylocke can also counter Magneto as she has multiple dashes and hits quite hard. Psylocke can also bait out Magneto's bubble shields as she can run away the moment the former activates them and re-engage once they are gone.
