Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

However, while Ys Memoire is more accessible than when it was first released, it can still be a particularly challenging title, especially for anyone hopping into the series for the first time. Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Overview In Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana

Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

Dularn, the Creeping Shadow, is the first boss encountered in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, located within the Tigray Quarry. You will cross paths with him after you gain access to the Storehouse, which can take some time but won't be too far into your journey.

He is a powerful Sorcerer, but this being your first encounter with him, he won't utilize his full strength here. Still, if you're new to the series, this fight can be a bit tricky as you only have access to your Sword at this point. Nonetheless, once you know his tricks and patterns, you should have him defeated swiftly!

Before diving into this encounter, we recommend you be at least Level 6, as Adol's Strength and Defense Stats will be more than enough to deal with Dularn in that range. If you're still struggling, you can always farm the enemies in the Tigray Quarry until you're Level 7 or 8!

How To Defeat Dularn, The Creeping Shadow In Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana

Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

Being the first boss encounter of Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, Dularn, the Creeping Shadow, doesn't have too many moves at his disposal, making him easily telegraphed. While you can only hit him in specific circumstances, he will expose himself quite regularly, allowing you to defeat him quickly.

Overall, Dularn only has access to four moves total, with one only coming into play when you drop his health quite drastically. So, in reality, you only really have to worry about three of them. You can learn more about all of his attacks, how to avoid them, and when you can attack him in the sections below!

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Barrier

Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

Before attacking, Dularn will also conjure a protective Barrier around himself, making him immune to physical attacks while it's active. Since you only have your Sword at the moment, you cannot attack him when it's active and must wait for it to deplete before doing so.

Fortunately, the Barrier will always drop at the same time, allowing you to recognize the timing and when you can attack him, making the encounter much more manageable overall. For now, let's focus on the three attacks you will be dealing with the most!

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Triple Sword Attack

Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

Most of Dularn's attacks involve him summoning Golden Swords and sending them toward Adol at blazing speeds, which can be tricky to deal with at first. One of the simple ones to avoid is his Triple Sword Attack, having him conjure Three Golden Swords straight into the air before launching them at Adol.

When you see the Three Golden Swords get lifted into the air, create distance between you and Dularn, then begin running to the left or right to have them miss you entirely. You can also try timing a jump as they get lower to the ground, but that's substantially harder.

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Four Sword Attack

Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

Next is his Four Sword Attack, which has him summon Four Golden Swords around himself before letting them loose and having them zip around the arena with slight homing properties. They won't travel in a linear pattern like the previous action, so be on high alert during this attack.

Like before, once you see him summon the Four Golden Swords around himself, create distance and wait for him to launch the attack. As the Swords approach you, leap over them, and try jumping away from the others and into a more open space so you can jump again if others are still chasing you.

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Five Sword Attack

Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

The last Sword Attack is his, you guessed it, Five Sword Attack, having him summon Five Golden Swords in a row in front of himself before launching them straight ahead toward Adol. This is a linear attack, and the Swords will always travel in a straight line.

We recommend getting closer to him with this action, as you can leap over one of the Swords as soon as he launches them, placing you directly beside him. You can also run to the far left or right of the arena to avoid them entirely, but you likely won't be fast enough to get out of the way in most situations.

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - When To Attack

Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

As mentioned earlier, Dularn will shield himself with a Barrier before attacking, making him invincible to all Physical Damage while it's active. You must wait for it to deplete before you can deal damage to him. Fortunately, you will always know when it's about to go away and take advantage of it every time.

After every third Sword Attack, Dularn's Barrier will deactivate, allowing you to land several hits onto him before he teleports away. He will then blink back onto the arena, reapply the Barrier, and repeat his attacks. This is the general pattern of this encounter.

Please be aware, though, that he will never perform the same pattern of Sword Attacks, so you must always be on your toes. He could do his Four Sword Attack all three times or can go in ascending order, and might even do two Three Sword Attacks and one Five Sword Attack.

Nonetheless, after he performs the third Sword Attack, his Barrier will be down, allowing you to run up to him and unleash a barrage of attacks onto him. If you have your Boost available, activate it during his third Sword Attack, as you will be able to deal tremendous amounts of damage to him as a result!

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Flame Wall

Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana - Dularn, The Creeping Shadow Boss Guide

Lastly, once you get his health down quite substantially, he will rarely toss out a Flame Wall attack that has him launch Six Fireballs in a tight group forward that will eventually spread further and further out the more they travel. These Fireballs will damage you decently, so you must avoid them at all costs.

Furthermore, he will only perform this attack after he does his third Sword Attack to throw you off even more. So, instead of being able to hit him, he will instantly teleport away from you and will immediately cast this Flame Wall attack. Again, he won't always do this, but it can trip you up if you aren't anticipating it.

If you see him teleport after launching his third Sword Attack, track where he went and begin running toward him. As soon as he casts the Fire Wall, leap over it when the Fireballs are still lumped together. The further they spread apart, the harder it will be to avoid. After doing this, you can attack him, as his Barrier will still be down!
