There are many resources you’ll need to acquire as you travel through the vast universe of No Man’s Sky, but perhaps none are as important as Tritium. This rare radioactive isotope is required for space travel, whether it be from inside your starship or the massive bulk of an interstellar frigate.

No Man's Sky: How To Get Tritium

Finding Tritium isn’t too hard, but harvesting vast quantities will be a chore that could go faster with a few helpful pointers. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about how to get Tritium quickly and what you’ll be using it for later.

What Is Tritium?

No Man's Sky: How To Get Tritium

Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen with the chemical formula H3. In the real world, naturally occurring tritium is very rare, and most tritium is artificially created in nuclear reactors.

In No Man’s Sky, Tritium is used for a number of different products ranging from base and freighter materials to fuel for your fleet of frigates. It’s rare to find on planets, but thankfully, finding vast quantities of Tritium is as easy as heading into space.

Where To Find Tritium

Tritium can commonly be found by shooting asteroids from the Cockpit of your starship. Asteroids are often seen in vast belts within solar systems, so there's no shortage of asteroids for you to shoot.

Once you've located an asteroid belt, simply fly into it and start blasting rocks. Each rock blasted will provide at least a small amount of Tritium alongside other elements such as Gold, Silver, and Platinum.

Keep an eye out for asteroids that are defined as 'Tritium Rich' on your sensors. These will provide a larger quantity of Tritium and have a higher chance of providing a Tritium Hypercluster.

A few minutes blasting asteroids can provide hundreds of Tritium. Simply keep blasting until you've obtained your desired quantity. Your base Photon Blaster is perfectly suited to destroying asteroids thanks to its decent range and fire rate.

Tritium Hyperclusters can provide even more Tritium. Just deconstruct the Hypercluster from your inventory to receive an extra influx of Tritium.

Tritium can sometimes be found for purchase at Galactic Trade Terminals. It is sometimes found in small quantities from rocky materials mined in planetary caves. It will also be found in small quantities within the inventory of a new starship or freighter after purchase.

Outlaw Stations will always have a small amount (several hundred units) of Tritium available for purchase.

  • Asteroids
  • Tritium Hyperclusters
  • Galactic Trade Terminals
  • Outlaw Stations
  • Underground Rock Formations

Besides fuel, Tritium is used to create many different products. Below, we’ve listed each recipe in which Tritium is an ingredient.

Tritium is most often used as fuel for your Starship or Frigate. Tritium can be fed directly into your Pulse Engine to refuel it or refined into fuel for your Frigate fleet.
