Remove Space (Gaps) Between Multiple Lines of Flex Items When They Wrap

The Issue: Gaps Between Columns

When using flexbox to create a container with multiple columns of items, it's possible to encounter an issue where there are gaps between the columns. This occurs because the initial setting of a flex container is align-content: stretch, which distributes multiple lines of flex items evenly along the cross axis.

To eliminate these gaps, adjust the align-content property to flex-start.

Understanding align-content

When working with single-line flex containers (i.e., flex-wrap: nowrap), the properties to use to distribute space along the cross axis are align-items and align-self. However, in multi-line flex containers (i.e., flex-wrap: wrap), such as the one in the question, the align-content property must be used to distribute flex lines (rows / columns) along the cross axis.

Setting align-content: flex-start

By applying align-content: flex-start to the flex container, the flex lines will align to the start of the cross axis, eliminating the unwanted gaps between columns.
