With Season 23, Split 2 of Apex Legends starting, a new Ranked season is here, and you might be wondering how the different Classes of Legends stand up to one another. We've got you covered with the latest Tier List of Classes in Apex, and the Legends that fall into them.
This isn't an individual Legends Tier List and instead is here to represent groups of Legends in their respective Classes, as your performance depends more on playstyle than which Legend you pick. Now, let's dive into explaining how we settled our rankings for this Season's Tier List, shall we?
How Our Ranking Was Determined
There are five Classes of Legends in Apex Legends: Assault, Support, Skirmisher, Recon and Controller. Each one of these houses a handful of Legends that fit into that playstyle, and so have passive buffs that help them fulfill their role.
That said, the Classes are heavily reliant on your play style, so keep in mind that your personal preference for how you like to play the game influences your picks in the tier list. Don't take it at face value, we are just looking at objective team performance.
We looked at the roster for each Class, and the Class's Perks, so we formed this list ranking each class based on the following factors:
- Which characters fit into that Class, and how good are they right now?
- What Perks and passives does that Class give?
- What are you missing out on if you pick a Legend from that Class?
Considering all of these, we formed this ranking to have four tiers:
S -Tier | Incredible Classes with a lot of versatility and use. A Legend from these Classes should appear on every team at least once. |
A -Tier | Solid Classes for every game, with very good advantages that teams really can use. |
B -Tier | Viable Classes which have decent outplay potential, but aren't of great importance to team composition. |
C -Tier | Underwhelming Classes with slightly disappointing abilities. |
In our ranking, we will also define what each Class does and why it's there, as well as which Legends make that Class stand out. Without further ado, let's start our list with…
S -Tier: Support Class
Easily the best Class in the game right now. Season 23 is called "the season of Supports" in the patch notes for a reason! Whilst Skirmishers get a single Perk, Supports get a whopping total of three; and each one has more to give to the team than the average perks of other Classes.
These Perks are the following:
- Extended Supply Bin Access - These bins appear next to each of the major locations across every map, and almost always contain a high-level Backpack, making them extremely useful in the early game. They also always contain Batteries and Medkits, which you might as well give to your teammates thanks to the next perk, which is...
- Heal Expert - You move at full speed whilst healing, and Shield Cells and Syringes heal double. This means that two Shield Cells are as strong as a Battery. This alone makes the Support characters wildly strong, but that isn't even the end of it since they also have...
- Revive Expert - Revives are faster and grant HP regen after they're done, and crafting banners also yields a Mobile Respawn Beacon - and this crafting buff is applied to any of your teammates when they craft banners.
Supports were a strong class already, but with these additions, the Support Class has become undeniably the best Class in the game - so much so, that it bumped up most Support Legends up a few tiers just because they have these Perks. Pair everything that has been said already, with the new Lifeline rework making her way better than she already was, and the Support Legends being strong on their own; the gap between S-Tier and A-Tier couldn't be any bigger.
A -Tier: Recon Class
Information in Apex is key, and Recons will always have a very high spot in rankings because of this. The Recon Class edges its way over the rest of the Classes below for two reasons. The first one is, of course, their Perks. These Perks are:
- Survey Beacon Access - Survey Beacons, when activated, scan a massive area for enemies, and track their movement for a short period. This info is crucial and makes Recons very welcome in any team.
- Threat Vision - When aiming down sights, enemies are highlighted, making them far easier to spot. For the individual player, this is a godsend.
These Perks are great, and make you far more knowledgeable about what your next move should be. That said, there is also the second reason this Class is great: Valkyrie and Crypto.
Crypto is by far the best Recon in the game, providing information no other Legends can. He lets you make calculated decisions on when and where to engage in fights, by telling you exactly what the enemies are doing at all times. Valkyrie, on the other hand, is a mix of a Skirmisher and a Recon with all the buffs Recons have. This means you can be as aggressive as you want, and still reveal info you otherwise wouldn't have.
B -Tier: Skirmisher And Controller Classes
Skirmishers and Controllers are on opposite sides of the playstyle spectrum, but in terms of balancing, they are very similar. Starting with Skirmishers, this is the most fun Class in Apex. Each Legend here has a lot of fun movement tech and rotation potential unique to them. That said, this is all the Class has to offer, with the only Perk being:
- Care Package Insight - Lets you see the contents of Care Packages. The Perk can be useful for the team, but it just doesn't live up to the other Classes' Perks.
The main focus here is the Legends themselves, where Revenant, Alter, and Pathfinder stand out this Season for pushing and rotation potential.
Controllers are less impressive individual Legends than Skirmishers, but they make up for it with their Perks:
- Ring Console Access - Allows them to use Ring Consoles to scan the position of the next Ring. This can be useful but isn't necessary for team composition.
- Zone Overcharge - Grants them 25 HP when inside the Ring. This is a very good early game Perk, but it falls off in the late game.
Rampart stands out from the Controllers, as always, thanks to her offensive potential in fights combined with her defensive abilities. Overall, these classes are not bad picks right now, just not the best in terms of team play.
C -Tier: Assault Class
Lastly, we have Assault Class. They are in a very strange spot because their role is slightly ambiguous. They're supposed to be the Class that initiates and dominates fights, but other Classes have Legends that do that job better. Their Perks are by far the worst, though:
- Weapon Supply Bin Access - Lets them open the aforementioned, which gives them rare attachments. This sounds good on paper, but frequently you will get attachments that you do not need, and often, your teammates don't need either.
- Carry Extra Ammo - Self-explanatory, you carry an extra stack of ammo per slot in your inventory. This one is good for you but brings nothing to team play. Ammo is too abundant for this to matter.
They need some sort of rework or a buff to their Perks to excel in their role. As of right now, their job is mostly taken by Skirmishers, though they aren't too far from B-Tier for one reason: the roster. The Assault roster is still strong in fights, it's just that the Class itself needs something to push it over the edge. Standing out from the rest would be Mad Maggie, Ash, and Fuse.
