There are plenty of obscure puzzles in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. You'll need to analyse strange notes to work out codes for safes and chests all over the world. One particularly tricky one is the safe in the Father and Son Mystery.
You get access to the Mystery after completing the Fieldwork side quest called A Nun in Trouble. Once you've travelled to Borgia Tower and saved Giuliana alongside Gina, you will get a new key that can open a door to a balcony area in the tower. In there, you'll find two notes and the Mystery quest will begin.
Ignore the dog sleeping and the cat meowing, they actually don't have anything to do with the puzzle. You can't even pet them!
You'll find two clues in the main room, each one in a drawer of a desk in the attic you're in.
One of the notes is a Polybius Square Diagram showing nine numbers in a grid with six letters. The other note is a poem in Italian that has eight of the letters circled in red.
The Mystery in your journal says you need to find six notes for the Father and Son puzzle. However, you only need the two in the room. There's no need to keep searching.
To solve the puzzle and get the safe code, you need to note down the Eight letters that are circled in pairs, and then see what number corresponds to those two letters on the Polybius Square note. The letters and numbers are:
Pair of Letters |
Number |
---|---|
I R |
5 |
I A |
8 |
T A |
7 |
S O |
3 |
As much as the final letter looks like an "A", it is actually an "O". The handwriting isn't the best, and that's what you may be stuck on.
Therefore, the code you need for the safe in the Father and Son Mystery is 5873. Enter that and the door will open. You'll then be able to grab the four remaining case notes you were Missing and the Mystery will be completed.
