How to Determine System DPI or PPI using JavaScript and CSS

Detecting the system DPI (dots per inch) or PPI (pixels per inch) is crucial for generating images with optimal resolution for various devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. However, the conventional approach of measuring the width of an element set to "1in" in CSS fails on mobile devices like iPhones.

An alternative solution involves determining the display dimensions in inches and dividing by the width in pixels, but the challenge lies in obtaining these dimensions. Here's a solution that combines both techniques to accurately determine the DPI:

The offsetWidth property is then used to determine the element's physical dimensions, multiplied by the device pixel ratio to account for high-density displays. This gives us the actual DPI or PPI of the device.</p>
