Inspecting :hover States in Chrome Developer Tools
In web development, it's often necessary to inspect the styling of elements in various states, including the :hover state. While Firebug offers a convenient style dropdown for selecting different states, Chrome Developer Tools may seem lacking in this regard.
Uncovering Hidden :hover State Options
However, Chrome Developer Tools indeed provides the ability to view and manipulate :hover states. To access these options:
- Navigate to the Styles pane in Chrome Developer Tools.
- Click on the small ":hov" text located in the top right corner of the Styles pane. This will display a list of pseudo-class rules, including :hover.
Forcing :hover State
Additionally, you can force an element into :hover state for easier inspection:
- Right-click on the element in the Elements panel.
- Select ":hover" from the context menu. This will temporarily apply the :hover styles to the element.
