Genshin Impact: Tenebrous Papilla Boss Guide

Bosses in Genshin Impact are key. Some of them not only work as story closures, but they also drop key items to ascend your characters. One such boss introduced in version 5.2 was Tenebrous Papilla.

As soon as you walk into the arena, the Tenebrous Papilla will start attacking you. This boss can mimic certain enemies you have fought during your journey through the various regions. The various enemies it can transform into are as follows:

• Jadeplume Terrorshroom
• Hydro and Electro Hypostasis
• Maguu Kenki
• Primo Geovishap
• Millenial Pearl Seahorse
• Legatus Golem

The enemy it transforms to is random, and it will use some of their attacks, but you shouldn't have any issue dealing with those. The mimics don't stay for long and the boss will keep switching between them as you deal damage to it. However, after enough damage has been dealt, the Tenebrous Papilla will turn back to its real form and move to the center of the arena.

Here, the boss will plant its various branches into the ground and start charging up an attack. You'll notice that a Void Ward shield bar will appear right below its HP. At this stage, you'll need to fill up the bar to stop the boss's incoming attack. If you don't, no matter how strong your character is, you'll get one shot and die.

The only way to fill up the bar is by using Elemental attacks. However, the attacks need to be fast as the window to charge up the Void Ward is around 13 seconds, which is very short. Once the Void Ward is full, the boss gets paralyzed for a while, and you can deal high damage to it.

If your characters are leveled up, you'll be able to kill the boss before it can do anything else.

The longer you take to defeat the boss, the less damage it takes to break the Void Ward shield.

Best Team To Use Against Tenebrous Papilla

Tenebrous Papilla doesn't have any resistances, so you can use any characters you want as long as they can deal Elemental damage consistently off-field and on-field. The best recommended DPS to use in this scenario is Arlecchino, as she can deal massive Pyro damage with fast attacks.

You can pair her with Raiden Shogun, Xiangling, and Yelan. This team can trigger Overloaded and Vaporize on the boss, the rest of the team can deal off-field damage while you attack with Arlecchino.

All you need to do is trigger Yelan and Xiangling's Ultimate, Raiden Shogun's Elemental Skill, and then switch to Arlecchino for the on-field damage. Xiangling and Yelan can deal massive damage as their Ultimate abilities can hit very hard. Raiden Shogun's Elemental Skill doesn't strike hard, but the consistent procs of Electro can trigger Overloaded.

Once you combine Arlecchino's attacks with the reactions from the rest of your team's moves, the shield breaks open fast enough that you can deal significant damage in the paralyzed phase of the boss.

If you don't have Arlecchino, you can also use the Raiden National team. This will include Raiden Shogun, Xiangling, Bennett, and Xingqiu. Raiden's burst has massive damage potential, while Xingqiu and Xiangling can deal off-field damage through their Ultimate abilities. Bennett can BUFF the allies with his Ultimate, even though he doesn't actively help in removing the Void Ward shield.
