Despite a narrow last-gasp 28-27 defeat by the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, which saw the Jets drop to a less-than-impressive 3-8 record for the 2024-25 season, the duo had plenty to say about quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his disappointing stint with the team.

"We can start to reflect on Aaron Rodgers," said Reynolds in the wake of the game, highlighting issues such as Rodgers' minimal snaps due not to his own doing but emblematic of deeper problems.

"Here we are now with the Aaron Rodgers experiment. They're getting a good look at him. In the period since they signed Aaron Rodgers, he's torn his Achilles and missed the season. They fired their head coach and they're now 3-8."

It appears that Aaron Rodgers' future with the New York Jets is hanging by a thread, especially after he recently committed himself to the team.

With hopes for renewal shattered, the Jets also seemed to have botched their chance of scooping up a replacement for Harrison Butker from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rodgers has played a total of 11 games this year after returning from an Achilles tear that sidelined him for almost all of last season. During these appearances, the 40 year old managed to complete 241-of-380 passes for 2,442 yards, compile 17 touchdowns and suffer seven interceptions, failing to surpass 300 passing yards in any match.

The Jets' top brass have been making some hasty decisions as their season goes off the rails. They've said goodbye to head coach Robert Saleh after a defeat to the Minnesota Vikings last month, snagged Aaron Rodgers' favourite receiver Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, and taken play-calling away from offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. But Reinebold pointed out these shake-ups haven't managed to turn things around.

"There's a stench around that team," he said. "Changing the head coach didn't change. Now Aaron Rodgers says he wants to come back for another year. Is that what you really want if you're a Jets fan?"

While Rodgers has made it clear he's keen to play in the NFL next season, Reynolds is sceptical about whether the Jets are truly ready to embrace him again.

"Well, yes, that's a decision they've got to make, especially if they're picking high in the draft," he commented.

"They may be tempted by a young quarterback. Rodgers is not going to mentor that quarterback. He would be on his own to learn, even if Rodgers stuck around. So, yes, not good for the Jets."

Athlon Sports' pundit Nick Faria has thrown a speculative curveball into the mix, suggesting a potential shake-up in the New York quarterback scene: "Just a thought, but what if the Jets move on from [Aaron] Rodgers this offseason, drafted a QB in Rd 1, and signed Daniel Jones to a bridge deal? NY fans might have their heads explode but it's an interesting hypothetical if the Jets keep losing as well," he remarked.
