When attempting to use WebDriver with Firefox, an encounter with an error is possible:

Cause and Solution
Unfortunately, Selenium WebDriver 2.53.0 is incompatible with Firefox 47.0. The older WebDriver component that handled Firefox browsers (FirefoxDriver) is being phased out. Starting from version 3.0, Selenium WebDriver requires the geckodriver binary to control Firefox browsers.
To resolve this issue, download the Firefox driver (geckodriver) and set the webdriver.gecko.driver variable to its absolute path using Java's system properties:

Alternatively, you can leverage the WebDriverManager library to automate this process, which downloads the appropriate Marionette binary based on your operating system and assigns it to the system property. Include the following dependency in your project:

Additional Notes
