Pokemon TCG Pocket may have a much smaller card pool than other Pokemon TCG simulators, but it has abundant Water-type cards. In fact, Water has the most representation with 41 cards, allowing you to build some unique decks.

10 Blastoise Ex

A Walking Tank

If you love the Squirtle line, then you can end up with a strong Blastoise at the end of your setup. Blastoise ex has 180 HP, which makes it the perfect tank to take a few hits. For two Energy it can do Surf for 40 damage.

Blastoise’s best Move is Hydro Bazooka which does a base damage of 100 for three Energy. However, if you get Blastoise ex to five Energy, this Move does 160 damage, which will blast some of the toughest Pokemon in the game right off the field.

9 Omastar

In a meta that revolves mostly around hitting big numbers with your attacks each turn, it is interesting to see a Pokemon that can stop it. Omastar is a Stage Two Pokemon with a decent 140 HP and a Move that hits for 70 damage.

What makes this Pokemon so good is that each time you hit your opponent with Ancient Whirlpool, they won’t be able to use it to attack the next turn. This can put Pokemon with a high retreat cost in a death lock unless your opponent can stop you with Trainer Cards.

8 Poliwrath

Poliwrath has an interesting Ability that will deal 20 damage to any Pokemon that dares to attack it. With 150 HP, this can do a decent amount of damage as your opponent tries to knock it out. Poliwrath also has a decent Move that can deal some damage if they try.

Mega Punch will do 80 damage for three Energy. In two hits, it will usually knock out most Pokemon except for those with the highest HP. This will also clear most Basic Pokemon out of the water in one clean hit for a free point.

7 Frosmoth

Frosmoth is a surprisingly viable Pokemon to choose from because it can keep your opponent’s Pokemon Asleep. With 90 HP and a Move that only does 40 damage, it might not seem like the strongest. Luckily, even 40 damage each turn can go a long way if your opponent can’t wake up their Pokemon.

Frosmoth is also weak against Steel-type cards instead of Electric-type ones. With so few Steel Pokemon and their small presence in the game, this means that most of the time you won’t have to worry about Frosmoth getting hit with a super effective Move. A Retreat Cost of one is also welcome.

6 Seadra

While Seadra may not be the one taking down your opponent’s strongest Pokemon, it can certainly take out the weakest. This Stage One Pokemon will require three Energy to use Water Arrow, but once you have it set up, it can deal 50 damage.

The good thing about this Move is that it can hit the Pokemon in your opponent’s Bench, making this a simple but effective way of sniping them before they can Evolve. With a Retreat Cost of one, you can switch it for a stronger Pokemon fairly easily as well.

5 Gyarados

In the classic days of Pokemon TCG, Gyarados was a force to be reckoned with. In Pokemon TCG Pocket, Gyarados has returned to the top with a decent 150 HP and a Move that does 100 damage.

Two hits from this Pokemon and even the mightiest will fall. However, if it doesn’t knock out your opponent’s Pokemon right away, it will still force the target to lose Energy. This can prevent your opponent’s Pokemon from using their Moves and force them to either give more Energy to their Active Pokemon or use those resources to finish setting up their Bench.

4 Lapras Ex

Lapras ex is one of the few cards you can only find as a promo card. However, it manages to pack a punch while also keeping itself on the field longer. With 140 HP, it’s already a decent enough Pokemon to take some hits, and Being a basic Pokemon also means it doesn’t take too much space in the deck.

Its most defining trait is the Move Bubble Drain, an attack that deals 80 damage for three Energy but also heals Lapras ex by 20 each time it uses the Move. This is the equivalent of a free Potion for Lapras each turn.

This is also one of the few Evolved Pokemon that has no Retreat Cost, making it the easiest to get out of the way if it takes too much damage. Then you can just swap it out for another Starmie ex and keep hitting those 90s.
