Taash is no stranger to fighting dragons, and she shares her love of the hunt with Rook in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Each dragon poses its own set of challenges depending on what status it's attuned to, forcing you to adjust your attacking strategy to cater to each dragon.
However, certain elements of each fight remain the same, as you should expect your foe to retreat and regroup twice during the battle. Unfortunately, even retreats can be dangerous, as you'll be forced to stay on your toes and dodge onslaughts of attacks while you wait for your openings.
How To Get To The Fangscorcher
Before you can face the Fangscorcher in combat, you need to reach its lair.
Begin at the Jagged Ruins, where you'll notice several floating platforms in the area; however, a massive gap prevents you from reaching the platform to the lair.
To solve the puzzle and forge a path, use the green laser in the center of the room, and redirect the beam toward a Circular receiver.
Once the beam lines up with the receiver, a stone platform will appear. Follow the platform and claim the Mystical Tower fast-travel point.
Enter the door to begin the quest.
As with all dragon-slaying affairs, Taash is a required party member, so add her now.
After a brief conversation and warning from Taash, follow her through the Deep Woods while picking up a Veil Jumper Note along your path.
Follow your marker to the top of a ruined building and cross a wooden beam. Then, jump up more platforms to another wooden beam to the top, passing through a cave to the Enchanted Courtyard.
Defeat the Antaam that ambush you in this room and continue along your path to the Fangscorcher's lair.
The Antaam are weak to Cold and resist Electric.
How To Kill The Fangscorcher
As you enter the area, the Fangscorcher will make a grand entrance, burning the surrounding trees. Head down the path to the left and through the Hazardous Passage.
Once you reach the Burnt Village, the Fangscorcher will land and the battle will begin.
This dragon is weak to Cold and resists Fire.
This dragon shares a similar moveset to other fights, with head whips and ranged attacks that deal massive damage if you're caught in them.
The Fangscorcher's main ranged attack is the deadly fireball, which you must avoid at all costs, or you will suffer massive damage.
Keep an eye out for the glowing purple weak spots that appear on the dragon's body, as attacking them will deal critical damage, and decimate your foe's HP quickly.
Once you deal enough damage, the Fangscorcher will retreat to a perch and rain down fire from above, creating chaos as you must dodge the timed onslaught.
All dragon fights have two phase transitions at roughly 66 percent and 33 percent remaining HP, where the dragon will retreat and pepper you with attacks that match its elemental attunement.
Once you've finished dodging and the Fangscorcher returns to the ground, either get in close to its legs and behind it to inflict continued melee damage or rely on the dodge-and-counter approach if you prefer to stay safe at range.
Be sure to avoid the dragon's long pillar of fiery breath if you're keeping your distance while backing off when you see the Fangscorcher summoning Magma at its feet.
Attack the purple weak spots as they appear, and you should push the Fangscorcher into its final phase transition after a few minutes of attacks.
Run around and dodge the fireballs coming at you until the Fangscorcher returns to the ground again for one last round of intense fighting.
At this point, it's best to take what the Fangscorcher gives you, waiting for an opening to attack the purple weak spots and finish the fight. Don't rush it and you'll be done shortly.
What Rewards Do You Get From Defeating The Fangscorcher?
Once you've finished plucking away and defeated the Fangscorcher, you'll be rewarded with the following:
- Dragon Bone
- Dragonfire Catalyst
- Faction points
- Bond points (Taash)
There's still one more reward that awaits you in the nearby Treasure Room, so follow your marker and enter the breathtaking area.
Among the piles of gold and riches, you'll find a chest that awards the Grip And Rip Unique Longbow.
Grip And Rip grants:
- Seven additional arrows
- Fires three arrows at once
- 50 percent less ranged attack damage
While the tradeoff seems significant, it's worth it if you can land all three arrows on your enemy, so this Longbow is best used against larger opponents where hitting every shot is easy.
