HTML5 Drag and Drop: Maintaining Element Opacity
When dragging and dropping an element on a web page, it often appears as "ghosted" with reduced transparency. This can be problematic if you want to maintain the element's full opacity during the drag operation.
Why Does Transparency Decrease?
The reduction in transparency is caused by the default behavior of browsers during drag and drop. When an element is dragged, it is placed into a container with its own opacity set to less than 1. This results in the dragged element inheriting the container's lower opacity.
Can Opacity Be Maintained?
At this time, it appears that it is not possible to maintain the original opacity of a dragged element using native browser functionality. The dragged element is locked within the encapsulating container, which has an unmodifiable opacity lower than 1.
While it might be theoretically possible to override browser settings for the dragged element, this would require significant effort and likely be very complex to implement due to the lack of DOM elements added during the drag operation.
