Police have cordoned off a property in Kinross after a savage dog attack resulted in the death of a small dog and injuries to two others, with their owner also sustaining minor wounds.

Officers, swathed in protective gear, were called to a location between Mill Street car park and Burns Begg Street, in Kinross, with a police response involving nine vehicles to the upsetting incident at around 2.30pm.

Police confirmed they responded to reports highlighting an incident where three dogs were set upon by other canines on the town's High Street and Burns Begg Street.

A small Lhasa Apso dog is reported to have died in the incident, with two other dogs left injured. A woman passer-by was also harmed in the attack and later received treatment for minor injuries.

Eyewitness accounts paint a harrowing picture, with one woman left terrified as the dogs launched themselves at her pet, reports the Daily Record.

One witness said: "They ripped (the dog) apart in front of her.

"They got it by the throat. It didn't stand a chance. Its owner was screaming and screaming for help, but it was too late."

Another onlooker added: "She tried to pick it up and then lay across it, but then they just kept going. There was nothing she could do. It was awful."

One of the dogs reportedly made a dash into the High Street, targeting yet another dog and leaving it severely injured until an act of bravery from a shopkeeper, who intervened with a kick, sent the aggressive animal fleeing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.30pm on Sunday, 20 October, 2024, we were called to a report of three dogs having been attacked by other dogs on High Street and Burns Begg Street, Kinross.

"One dog died and two others were injured and taken to the vet for treatment.

"A woman also suffered injuries when she fell and was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

"Officers are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing. There is no risk to the wider public.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 1865 of 20 October, 2024."
