Bitcoin developer Peter Todd was recently named as Satoshi Nakamoto by an HBO documentary, but a snarky reply he made on X about the name of his pet has overshadowed the revelation.

Instead of focusing on the documentary's claims, crypto enthusiasts have been preoccupied with creating meme coins linked to Todd's pets.

One of these meme tokens, inspired by Todd's post on X, has seen a remarkable surge in value. According to data on GeckoTerminal, the Solana-powered token, trading under the ticker $YOURMOM, has soared by over 4000%.

At the time of writing, YOURMOM is trading at $0.002647 with a market cap of $2.4 million, having surged by 4044% in the past 24 hours. The token was launched on Oct. 9.

The genesis of the YOURMOM token can be traced back to a post by an X user who told Todd that he was "all over the Solana memesphere." The user, identified as @iwantitmore_sol on X, then proceeded to ask the Bitcoin developer if he had any pets and what their names were.

This was a not-so-subtle attempt to contribute to the meme token trend of naming coins after animals, a practice that has become increasingly common within the Solana memecoin community.

In response to the user's query, Todd sarcastically quipped that he had one pet and its name was "your mom." This snarky reply, however, was quickly seized upon by meme token creators who wasted no time in using it to create new coins.

At the last count, there were four Solana tokens created in the past 16 hours with the ticker YourMom, some even displaying Todd's image as the coin's icon.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Solana meme coin creators have swiftly churned out tokens based on people's pets.

Previously, when Polymarket bettors picked Len Sassaman as their top choice for Satoshi's true identity, Solana meme coin creators quickly launched tokens named after Sassaman's two cats, Odin and Sasha.

However, after HBO named Peter Todd and not Sassaman as Satoshi in the documentary, the prices of memecoins created in the cryptographer's honor have nosedived.

According to data on CoinMarketCap, the token SASHA, named after Sassaman's orange cat, has dropped by 88.21% in the past 24 hours.

Similarly, Odin, Sassaman's other cat-inspired meme token, saw its price plummet by nearly 90% in the hours following the release of the HBO documentary, according to GeckoTerminal.

On Oct. 8, HBO's documentary "Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery" named Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd as Satoshi Nakamoto.

One of the main reasons cited by documentary producer Cullen Hobak for this conclusion was a series of cryptic online posts, including one where Todd called himself “the world's leading expert on how to sacrifice your Bitcoins.” This was interpreted as a veiled admission that he destroyed access to the estimated 1.1 million BTC attributed to Nakamoto.

The documentary also fueled speculation by claiming that Todd once accidentally posted from Satoshi's account on the BitcoinTalk forum in 2010.

Despite these claims, even before the documentary aired, Todd has been consistently denying theories that point to him as Bitcoin's true creator. On Oct. 8, he responded to a comment on X asking him to come out and deny HBO's claim, to which the developer simply wrote "I am not Satoshi."
