According to a Lookonchain report on Oct. 8, American rapper Ty Dolla $ign accidentally burned 1.6 million SUNDOG tokens worth $500,000
American rapper Ty Dolla $ign accidentally burned 1.6 million SUNDOG tokens (around $500,000) after making an incorrect transfer on the Tron blockchain on Oct. 7.
According to a report by Lookonchain on Oct. 8, the tokens were meant to arrive in his Tron wallet, but due to the error, they were burned instead.
Following the loss, Ty Dolla $ign quickly took to X to express his frustration and explain what happened. Several crypto enthusiasts took to the comments to attempt to explain the occurrence.
Some suggested alternative meme coins, like Shiba Inu, to replace the loss, but none offered a solution to retrieve the burned tokens.
However, Tron founder and crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun, who is also an ambassador for SUNDOG, intervened to save the day for the rapper.
Sun restored Ty Dolla $ign’s lost tokens by sending the equivalent value to his Tron wallet. This action ultimately saved Ty Dolla $ign from his costly mistake.
The event comes days after the rapper expressed skepticism about meme coins, calling them hype-driven. However, after some banter on X, boxer Ryan Garcia encouraged him to buy SUNDOG, which the rapper did before encountering the technical setback.
Ty Dolla $ign isn’t the first public figure to suffer a loss through a blockchain mishap. In March 2024, an anonymous developer behind the Slerf memecoin accidentally burned $10 million worth of Solana (SOL) tokens due to a mis-click during a token-burning event.
Additionally, NFT collector Brandon Riley, while attempting to set up a proxy wallet in 2023, inadvertently destroyed a $129,000 CryptoPunk digital collectible.
