Memecoins had a stellar day Sunday, with several top meme coins making it to the daily cryptocurrency gainers list.

Here's a look at what happened: Dog-themed token dogwifhat led the memecoin rally with a 16.18% surge, making it the second-best performing cryptocurrency in the last 24 hours. The Solana SOL/USD-based coin hit its highest level since July 23 and saw a 75% spike in its trading volume.

Cat-themed Popcat wasn't far behind, surging more than 15% to set a new all-time high. The cryptocurrency soared more than 40% this last week and has been the market's top gainer this year with a 15,398% surge.

Another Solana-based memecoin, Bonk, rose 12.79%, moving up to fifth place among the top market performers.

Blue-chip meme coins Dogecoin DOGE/USD and Shiba Inu SHIB/USD also had a good day, surging 4.47% and 6.63%, respectively, as the overall meme coin market capitalization spiked more than 9% in the last 24 hours.

The broader cryptocurrency market also had a positive session with gains across the board. Bellwethers Bitcoin BTC/USD and Ethereum ETH/USD made significant advances overnight.

The optimism could be attributed to Friday's better-than-expected jobs report, which indicated a healthy economy and allayed fears of a recession.
