BONK, WIF, POPCAT: Meme Coins in Top Gainers Today

As the crypto markets experience a collective downturn, meme cryptocurrencies are displaying varied performances. While some large meme coins, such as SHIB and DOGE, are facing losses, others are notably outperforming the market.

Among the five best performing cryptocurrencies today, two belong to the meme coin category. Dog-themed coins Bonk (BONK) and Dogwifhat (WIF) both saw gains of 7.1% over the past 24 hours.

Solana's Dogwifhat (WIF) meme coin delivered a blow to bears, with traders shorting WIF incurring liquidations exceeding $2.17 million in the last 24 hours.

Another large-cap cryptocurrency, Popcat (POPCAT), which is the only cat-coin in the top 100, experienced a 2.4% increase in market capitalization.

On the other hand, most other cryptocurrencies are experiencing losses today. The market's leading barometer dropped by 3.3%, marking the sharpest decline in recent days. Bitcoin (BTC), the largest cryptocurrency, decreased by 3.1%, while Ethereum (ETH) lost 2% overnight.

Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) both experienced significant losses. Both coins are among the worst performers, along with GALA, CORE and XRP.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) lost 6.4% overnight, while Dogecoin (DOGE) dropped by 5.4%. Shiba Inu (SHIB) is now overtaken by synthetic Ether WSTETH as the 14th largest cryptocurrency.

The largest TON-based meme cryptocurrency, Dogs (DOGS), lost 8.1% of its market cap, causing its capitalization to fall below $400 million.

BabyDogeCoin (BABYDOGE) also experienced a decline of 5.1%.
