After one and a half years since the Toughbook G2 Mk2 launch, Panasonic is now upgrading the rugged tablet to more modern processors. Specifically, Panasonic swaps the Intel Core i7-1270P for the Intel Core Ultra 5 135U,which has two performance cores with clock speeds of up to 4.4 GHz and eight efficiency cores.
The chip offers the more modern Intel Arc iGPU but with only four Xe cores. Apart from the processor, Panasonic has upgraded the rear main camera in particular to a new 13 MP sensor with autofocus and LED flash. The replaceable battery still has a capacity of 50 Wh, but the new processor is expected to achieve up to 47% longer battery life. Specifically, Panasonic speaks of up to 11 hours according to MobileMark 25.
Panasonic has deliberately not made any changes to the design, so the tablet is compatible with over 80 percent of the accessories developed for the Toughbook G2 Mk1 and Mk2. The tablet is said to be ideally suited for use in the field, as the IP65 certification means that the device can withstand even heavy rain, and the IP55-certified stylus should still work even when the display is wet. The Toughbook G2 Mk3 can be used at temperatures from -29 °C to 60 °C.
The 10.1-inch LCD achieves a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels and an impressive full-surface brightness of 1,000 nits, which means the screen should remain legible even in the sun. An LTE or 5G modem is available for an additional charge. The tablet supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and Windows login via facial recognition, while the 2 MP webcam has a privacy cover. The tablet offers a Thunderbolt 4 port (USB-C), one USB-A port, and Ethernet.
