So far, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has exceeded performance expectations by taking the fight to Apple silicon on the CPU front. A new leak from Weibo says its GPU could be just as impressive. Apparently, the Adreno 830 is anywhere between a 43-56% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In GFXBench Aztec Ruins High, it achieves 125 FPS.
In contrast, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's Adreno 750 GPU maxes out at 96 FPS in the same test, with an average framerate of 78.5 FPS. Essentially, the Adreno 830 is, on average, 37% faster than its predecessor. However, It still lags behind the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 (Arm Immortalis-G925 MP12), which is said to go as high as 134 FPS in the same test. On the other hand, the Apple A18 Pro scores a paltry 73 FPS.
Contrary to an earlier leak which said the Adreno 830 is clocked at 965 MHz, the leaker says it has been bumped up to 1.1 GHz. The above data is sourced from a Qualcomm Reference Device and not a production unit. Usually, a chip's retail version often performs better than a reference device, so there's still a chance Qualcomm could catch up with MediaTek. Plus, we don't know what kind Qualcomm plans to use on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Besides, the Adreno 830 could still get ahead due to its DLSS Frame Generation-like feature.
