MediaTek has confirmed it will launch the Dimensity 9400 on October 9 at 10:30 local time. That date isn't exactly a mystery and has been hinted at earlier by Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station. and a MediaTek executive. In a teaser (H/T @yabhishekhd), MediaTek has shown off some of the chip's features, some of which were revealed by leaks/rumours.
For starters, the Dimensity 9400 will keep its predecessor's 8-core CPU design with 1 prime Cortex-X925 CPU core. Its supporting cast is unknown but one can reasonably assume it will include a mix of Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 cores. In terms of raw clock speed, the chip lags behind Qualcomm and Apple. This is reflected in its single-core Geekbench performance, where it loses out to the competition.
However, the Dimensity 9400's real strength lies in its GPU. Apparently, its Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU blazes past the Apple M4 in benchmarks; a commendable feat for a smartphone SoC. Other notable specs include 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X memory from Samsung and a new NPU. The Dimensity 9400 is expected to debut alongside the Vivo X200 series on October 14.
