A special coin collection was released to celebrate a moment in UK history - the London 2012 Olympics. 29 different 50p coins were created and released into the world in a bid to mark the iconic games in the UK capital.

And with rare coins being a hot topic at the moment, with two old pennies making you a "millionaire", it's important to check your stash.

These designs were chosen through a public competition in 2009 with thousands of submissions recorded. Now a "valuable" football 50p coin is turning heads on TikTok after user @CoinCollectingWizard urged his 199,000 followers to look out for them.

He said in the video: "Did you know there's a valuable football 50p coin you can find? All of the London Olympics 50p designs were chosen through a public competition in 2009 and out of 30,000 submissions, this design was chosen for the Offside Rule 50p."

Explaining the iconic piece, he continued: "The Olympics Offside Rule can be found in your change. Almost 1.2million coins dated 2011 were struck to enter circulation.

"The coin features an explanation of the offside rule in football for anyone struggling to understand common sense, I'm joking. But this coin is quite clever at explaining the rules."

He claimed if you find the coin, while it's not a mega jackpot, you can still scoop £30 in circulated condition and a "very nice" £20 in uncirculated. The user concluded: "Do you have this 50p or have you seen it in your change?"

So have you ever spotted this coin in your pocket? There are about 1.2million of them lurking in UK circulation so it should be fairly easy to find – and then if you do, you're looking at pocketing 60 times more than face value.

After the news was shared on TikTok, the video garnered hundreds of likes and dozens of comments. One said: "I have one," while another bragged: "I've got two."
