AMD reportedly plans to launch non-AI Ryzen 200 series to compete with rumored non-Ultra Intel Core 200 lineup

The Intel Core Ultra 200V series is out, and the company will be launching the Arrow LakeCore Ultra 200 desktop lineup next month. However, it seems that another line of CPU is on the way, which will reportedly be called the Core 200 series. That is, it won't have "Ultra" in its name.

Rumors point out that this new non-Ultra Core 200 line is another Raptor Lake Refresh, the third of its kind after the 13th and 14th generation processors. If this lineup is indeed in the works, the absence of "Ultra" could be due to the fact that the Raptor Lake lineuporiginally didn't feature an NPU.

As for its competitor lineup from AMD, Golden Pig Upgrade, a reliable source, reports that the company is preparing to launch Hawk Point Refresh. It will allegedly be called Ryzen 200, without the "AI" in its name. This would be the third Zen 4 line of CPUs from the company.

The reason behind not having "AI" in the Ryzen 200 series is likely the fact that it could simply have the same first-gen XDNA NPU. While it was an upgrade from the NPU that the Phoenix Point featured, it topped out at 16 TOPS, which isn't fast enough to meet the Microsoft Copilot+ PC program requirements.

However, if AMD is indeed planning to launch rebranded Hawk Point CPUs with a new name, it will just create confusion. There wouldn't be an obvious way to determine whether the CPUs within the line are based on Zen 4 and AMD's previous naming scheme was already confusing.

Reportedly, Intel's new Core 200 lineup will launch at the end of the year, while AMD will launch the Ryzen 200 next year. But, again, all of this is currently in the rumor stage, and even though reports from Golden Pig Upgrade often stand correct, Raptor Lake and Zen 4 don't really need to be part of three different lineups.
