Maintenance-focused FreeBSD 13.4 update now available

Released on April 13th, 2021, FreeBSD 13.x has received four maintenance updates ever since. Unleashed earlier today, FreeBSD 13.4 is the fifth release of the 13-STABLE branch, and, unfortunately, it doesn't come with anything that will enhance the overall experience noticeably and is also visible in the shape of user interface changes. However, there are plenty of under-the-hood changes that aim to make everything smoother, more secure, and provide the latest versions of as many third-party apps as possible.

Without further ado, these are some software and driver updates, as well as several other changes that come with FreeBSD 13.4:

  • atf 0.22 snapshot 55c21b2c.
  • bc 6.7.6.
  • libarchive 3.7.4.
  • capsicum-test snapshot eab7a83b.
  • SIM7600G support added to u3g(4).
  • Multiple stability fixes to native and LinuxKPI-based wireless drivers, thanks to sponsorship by The FreeBSD Foundation.
  • SCTP checksum offload support added to the loopback interface.
  • Added temperature reading support for AMD Ryzen 7 Phoenix processors (family 0x19, models 0x70 to 0x7f) to amdsmn(4) and amdtemp(4).

FreeBSD users as well as those who use Linux might want to take a step forward and check Jeffrey Muniz' Defensive Bash Scripting: A Practical Guide to Building Secure Systems with Automation and Proactive Security Measures. This 96-page guide is available for $5.99 in Kindle format and $14.30 in paperback.
