Cybertruck autoparking tested at Superchargers as Tesla hints at ruggedizing it more

When teasing its new features roadmap, Tesla's AI team confirmed that the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) option for the Cybertruck will be released as soon as this month.

While Cybertruck owners wait on FSD 12.5 support, Tesla delivered the Vision Park Assist and Autopark features to make slotting of the huge truck in tight parking spots easier for the driver. The new Autopark option comes with update v2024.32.5, and is rolling out to select owners.

Cybertruck Autopark test

One of them put Autopark to the test at a Supercharger location to gauge if it will manage to go in with a maneuver suitable for the unorthodox Cybertruck charging port location compared to other Teslas.

The electric pickup managed to reverse park all the way to the pile and stop in a place where the relatively short charging cable could reach the Cybertruck's NACS port without further adjustments.

Cybertruck battery armor

Besides FSD support, Tesla has other plans to improve the Cybertruck ownership experience, especially for those who'd like to go off-roading with it. The chief Cybertruck engineer Wes Morrill now says that the electric pickup will get extra protection for the battery, as well as rock sliders for those times when it is taken off the beaten path.

"Battery armor and Rock sliders will be available as a retrofit option end of this year," tipped Morrill. His comment comes in response to a video in which the Cybertruck tries to take on a fence with dubious results, and he cautioned that damage from the fence occurred because the owner removed the Cybertruck's bumper and stock skid plate.

Tesla already provides battery sealingwhen the Cybertruck is inWade modefor river crossings, using the air suspension compressor. The upcoming Battery Armor retrofit, however, sounds like a way to physically protect and ruggedize the truck even further for off-road adventures.
