Huawei has now released the Mate XT Ultimate Design, its first Mate X release since last year's Mate X5. While theMate X5shares many of its underlying features with the slightly older Mate X3, the Mate XT represents an entirely new direction for the Mate X series. Specifically, the Mate XT is the first mass-produced foldable to feature a display that can be folded in two ways, unlike popular alternatives like Galaxy Z Fold6 or OnePlus Open (curr. $1,299.99 on Amazon).
Please note that the Mate XT is not the first showcase of this display style. For example, Visionox showcased similar prototypes five years ago, while Tecno recently presented the Phantom Ultimate 2, albeit only as a proof of concept. By contrast, the Mate XT is actually available to purchase, albeit only in China for now. Even then, the Mate XT starts at an eye-watering CNY 19,999 (~$2,810) with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. For reference, two other memory configurations also exist, although these sell for CNY 21,999 (~$3,091) and CNY 23,999 (~$3,372) with 512 GB and 1 TB of storage, respectively.

Officially, Huawei has not revealed what chipset underpins the Mate XT. Instead, it has focused on revealing other specifications, such as its 5,600 mAh battery that supports 66 W wired charging, 50 W wireless charging and 7.5 W reverse wireless charging. Nonetheless,@feni_book has demonstratedthat the Mate XT utilises the sameKirin 9010chipset as thePura 70 Ultrathat Huawei rather than a newer equivalent.
Arguably, the device's display is its standout feature, which Huawei has sourced from BOE. As expected, the Mate XT spans 10.2-inches across when fully unfolded with a 2,232 x 3,184-pixel resolution, which narrows to 7.9-inches and then to its 6.4-inches in its more conventional smartphone configuration. Incidentally, while Huawei has confirmed that the OLED panel supports LTPO adaptive refresh rates and 240 Hz touch sampling, it does not list a peak refresh rate for the 298 g device on its website.
At any rate, Huawei has revealed that the Mate XT's camera configuration, which includes a 50 MP optically stabilised primary camera with an f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture. Added to that, the Mate XT features a 12 MP telephoto camera that offers a 125 mm equivalent focal length and 5.5x zoom, as well as 12 MP ultra-wide-angle (f/2.2) and 8 MP front-facing cameras. Please see the unboxing video shared by @feni_book andHuawei's websitefor more information; unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether Huawei intends to release the Mate XT Ultimate Design outside China, though.
