The latest scam coincided with Apple’s official “Glowtime” event, during which the tech giant unveiled its latest iPhone models. Scammers are capitalizing on the immense attention the event is generating with fake streams surfacing alongside the genuine Apple broadcast on YouTube.
Some of these streams were even deceptively presented as coming from “Apple US” and featured a verified account checkmark, adding an extra layer of credibility to the fraudulent content.
In one scam stream, the fake Cook told viewers to deposit Bitcoin, promising Apple would double the amount. The message echoed the typical rhetoric of crypto scams, promising lucrative returns while stealing users’ funds.

According to screenshots shared on X (formerly Twitter), some of these scam streams attracted hundreds of thousands of views. However, it is believed that many of these views were generated by bots to make the stream appear legitimate.
Following the incident, YouTube acknowledged the issue with the scam streams on September 9th via a post on X. The platform urged users to report suspicious videos and assured that the fake streams were removed. The accounts responsible for the scam were also closed following the incident.
