Pocket Mini: Retroid seeks to dethrone compact gaming handheld kings with new Qualcomm Snapdragon and AMOLED-based release

The Pocket Mini is one Retroid's smallest devices released in recent years. As such, while less than a year has passed since the introduction of the Pocket 4 and the Pocket 4 Pro, Retroid does not compare the device against either of those devices. Instead, the company seeks to draw parallels between the Pocket Mini and the Pocket 2S (curr. $149.99 on Amazon) that debuted in summer 2023.

As one image below shows, the Pocket Mini is only marginally larger than the Pocket 2S at 165 mm tall, 77 mm wide and 16.5 mm thick. On top of that, the former weighs 215 g, despite featuring a 4,000 mAh battery and a 3.7-inch display. For reference, the Pocket Mini is said to be capable of recharging its battery at 27 Wh. Moreover, its display is an OLED panel that outputs at 1,280 x 960 pixels with 500 nits peak brightness.

Added to that, the Pocket Mini relies upon the sameQualcomm Snapdragon 865chipset, UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR4x-2133 RAM as thelarger Pocket 5. Moreover, the device utilises Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, as well as 1080p/60 Hz external monitor support via DisplayPort Alt Mode using its USB Type-C port. Furthermore, the Pocket Mini keeps all its components cool using a small active cooling solution.

Please note that the Pocket Mini ships with Android 10 and not Android 13like the larger Pocket 5. However, Retroid hopes to release an Android 13 update to its smaller gaming handheld later this year. The Pocket Mini will be orderable from today until September 11 at 01:00 UTC for $189 using coupon code RPMINISAVE10, after which it will rise to $194. Alternatively, the device can be ordered with thePocket 5as a combo pack for $369, rising to $389 on the same date. Please seeRetroid's product pagefor more hardware details.
