Leaked photos reveal screenless Leica M11-D rangefinder camera, tentative launch date and price
The launch of the Leica M11-D has been rumoured for some time now, but has faced several delays. However, a new report from Leica Rumors claims that it will finally be launching in the coming week, on or around September 12. The claimed launch price in Europe is €9,350. While the previously leaked user manual had confirmed all the important specs, we now get a proper look at the camera itself, confirming all the design changes from the M10-D.
The standout feature of the ‘D’ variants is, of course, that there's no LCD or menu controls on the back. A large ISO dial adorns the rear of the camera instead, that can be set from ISO 64 all the way to 50,000, in addition to Auto and Manual (for adjustment via the thumbwheel). Also omitted this time is the folding thumb-rest that appeared on the M10-D.
Prioritising discreetness and functionality for street photography, the M11-D will use an aluminium top plate for a 100 gram weight saving, and scratch-resistant black paint—there is no silver option. It also ditches the Leica red dot logo on the front, in favour of a stylised engraving on the top plate.
A couple of new accessories have also been revealed. There’s a new half-case in black leather, which has a cutout for the ISO dial, and provides access to the battery and memory card thanks to a hinged bottom plate. There’s also a pair of leather carrying straps with shoulder pads, in brown and black.
The rest of the specs and features are identical to the M11-P, which is currently available for $8,165 for the silver-chrome version and $8,380 for the black one. Meanwhile, the ultra-popular Fujifilm X100VI (black) starter bundle is available on Amazon for $2,820.
