Rare King Charles 50p coin exact detail that makes it worth 54 times its value

A RARE 50p coin could be lurking in your change – and it might be worth a small fortune.

TikTok rare coins expert @thecoincollectorUK explained the coin can be worth as much as £850 if it was minted in 1972.

The coin is worth so much because only about 1,000 of them were made that year.

"So you'll notice this is quite an old coin from 1972, just a few years after the 50p was released, and for that reason it's 30mm – one of the large, old-style 50ps," @thecoincollectorUK explained.

"It goes for crazy money, £750 to £850 in uncirculated condition. And even in circulated condition, found in your change, £500 to £600."

But the coin expert warned that the older coins are more likely to be battered and bruised – which will affect the price you can get for it.

"As you can see, this coin is quite battered and bruised so it will go for less than the top price," he said.

"But even so, it will still go for a very healthy £250 to £300."

If you're lucky enough to find a rare coin, you can sell it on eBay, at a coin fair or through a specialist dealer.

But be sure to do your research first to get the best possible price.

Here are some of the rarest 50p coins in circulation and how much they could be worth.
