The Meerut Metro is being built in two phases. The first phase will connect Partapur to Modipuram, covering a distance of 13 stations, while the second phase will span from Shradhapuri Phase II to Jagriti Vihar, adding 12 more stations to the network. The metro will feature three-coach trains, each capable of accommodating over 700 passengers. The rapid train, on the other hand, will operate at speeds of up to 180 kmph, while the metro service will have a maximum operational speed of 120 kmph.

The total length of the Meerut Metro corridor will be 23 km, with 18 km being constructed above ground and 5 km running underground. The metro system will comprise 9 elevated stations, 3 underground stations, and 1 ground-level station.

At a ceremony held at the RRTS depot in Duhai, Ghaziabad, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) unveiled the metro's modern interiors and passenger-centric features. The event was inaugurated by NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goyal, who highlighted the transformative impact of the metro, saying, "Meerut Metro will revolutionise the city's transportation, enhancing connectivity, productivity, and quality of life. With a modern, reliable, and fast transit system, it will reduce travel time, alleviate traffic congestion, and foster economic growth."

The metro trains are being manufactured domestically by Alstom in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Alstom will also be responsible for maintaining the trains for the next 15 years. Five train sets have already been delivered to NCRTC.

The metro trains will be equipped with air-conditioning, CCTV cameras, USB charging points, and an emergency communication system. For enhanced passenger safety, Platform Screen Doors (PSD) will be installed. All 13 metro stations will be universally accessible, catering to the needs of women, senior citizens, and People with Disabilities.

The Meerut metro train sets will also boast state-of-the-art, lightweight stainless-steel coaches. Each of these three-car trainsets will comfortably carry over 700 passengers with a seating capacity of 173, thanks to the ergonomic 2x2 transverse and longitudinal seating arrangement.

Goyal noted that the construction of the Meerut Metro is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by 2025.
