1X Technologies announces its Neo bipedal humanoid is one step closer to taking over home chores

1X Technologies has announced the Neo bipedal humanoid robot is entering beta testing at select homes this year followingits earlier unveiling. Unlike their first humanoid robot, Eve, which rolled on wheels, Neo walks about like a human on robotic legs and feet. This allows Neo to maneuver around homes with greater flexibility than Eve.

Neo will adopt many of the AI technologies Eve has developed, such as understanding verbal commands and doing a variety of learned tasks. This means Neo can bake cookies like Eveand thenwalk them upstairs to its master. With five-fingered robotic hands, Neo can grab and do things like a human, such as wiping down tables or giving endless massages, without ever getting tired.

All humanoids from 1X can be controlled by designated robot operators working for the company, who can tap into the cameras and control systems remotely to ensure safety. The company has not revealed whether users can customize their humanoid companions with mechanical add-ons to support specific needs or whether Neo is waterproof to help the disabled with bathing.

The Neo is 5.41 feet tall (1.65 meters) and weighs 66 pounds (30 kilograms). The robot is able to carry objects weighing up to 44 pounds (20 kg). The battery has a runtime of two to four hours and allows the android to run up to 7.5 miles per hour (12 kph). The robot automatically finds its way back to the charging station when the battery is low.
