The Meta Connect 2024event is set for September 25 to 26, and in this event, the company is expected to unveil a new affordable virtual reality headset. Rumored to be the Meta Quest 3S, the VR headset has seemingly appeared on FCC listing. This suggests that the launch could be over the horizon.
Per the FCC listing, the new Meta VR headset is codenamed P97. While this codename can refer to other products the company may have been working on, both FCC's and Dekra's documents confirm that it's a virtual reality headset. For those wondering, Dekrais a product certification company, and like the FCC, it too certifies tech products before public release.
These certifications didn't provide much detail about the VR headset, but earlier reportssuggested that the new affordable virtual reality headset will be based on the Meta Quest 3. One leak, in particular, claimed that the core specs will be similar, with the Quest 3S allegedly featuring the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 SoC.
As for the price, Mark Gurman, a well-known analyst, reported that Meta is considering offering the Quest 3S at "$300 or $400." The former would make the new VR headset $199.99 cheaper than the base model of Quest 3 (available on Amazon). However, to keep the price lower, the company may not include the controllers in the same package. That is, they would be a separate purchase.
While all these pieces of information are yet to be confirmed by Meta, the Connect event is just 23 days away from now. So, if the company is actually preparing to launch the Quest 3S, you don't have to wait long to find out all about the seemingly affordable virtual reality headset.
