GoPro Hero and Hero 13 Black: Official teaser confirms September 4 launch date as first hands-on video surfaces

GoPro's upcoming Hero cameras have already been the subject of multiple leaks. The specs and official images were recently revealed, and now, the company has posted a teaser video on its X/Twitter account that confirms September 4 as the official launch date for its two new action cameras. Around the same time, a new GoPro Hero 13 Black hands-on video was posted by Igor Bogdanov on his account. Take a look at the official teaser and the leaked clip below:

While the hands-on video doesn't reveal anything that hasn't been outed before, it takes us one step closer to the official launch. A front-mounted display with the text '13 BLACK' is showcased, next to the camera sensor and the heatsink. Just like GoPro's previous versions, the Power/Mode button is visible on the camera sensor-adjacent edge. While previous leaks detailed a September 16 release, the latest information from GoPro suggests otherwise. However, there's still a chance that September 4 is merely an official reveal date, with September 16 being the actual availability date for the two cameras.

The GoPro Hero 13 Black is expected to feature the same 27 MP camera sensor as its predecessor, offering 5.3K recording at 60 FPS, or 4K at 120 FPS. As per previously leaked info, the camera will retain HyperSmooth 6.0 and HDR from the Hero 12 Black (currently $299 on Amazon). However, new upgrades will likely include a bigger 1,900 mAh battery. In contrast, its predecessor has a 1,720 mAh battery.

Apart from the battery, the Hero 13 Black's main upgrades seem to focus on accessories and better heat dissipation. A Macro lens and an Ultra Wide lens attachment were also revealed, alongside a Floaty accessory and a protective sleeve for the action camera. Other attachments, such as a microphone and a Magnetic Latch Ball Joint mount, were also a part of Igor's earlier leak.

The smaller GoPro Hero will present itself as a likely successor to the GoPro 11 Mini (currently $249 on Amazon). It is rumored to support HyperSmooth stabilisation and slow motion video recording as well. Past leaks have hinted towards a large heatsink instead of a front display. It's only a matter of days now before all these aforementioned leaks receive the official GoPro confirmation stamp.
