During the Q3 2024 earnings call, Qualcomm's current CEO and president, Cristiano Amon, promised that the company will introduce new Snapdragon X series laptops that will be as low as $700. The processor that will be powering these has just leaked, and it's an 8-core X Plus CPU.
This new 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor is planned to be unveiled at IFA on September 4 and will be named X1P-42-100. As for how it differs from the other ARM processors in the current lineup, it has a comparatively less capable GPU, with the maximum compute performance being at 1.7 TFLOPS.
To compare, the top-end Snapdragon X Elite CPU, X1E-00-1DE, has an Adreno GPU that can deliver 4.6 TFLOPS. The other X Elite processor, which is the X1P-64-100, can offer 3.8 TFLOPS. However, the good part is that the AI performance of the new 8-core ARM processor is at 45 TOPS, the same as that of the other CPUs in the lineup.
That makes Qualcomm's new 8-core ARM processor meet the 40 TOPS NPU requirement for the Copilot+ PC program (Vivobook S 15 with X1E-78-100 curr. $1,019.99 on Amazon). The leaked marketing slide also shares that the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 has support for up to three external displays at 4K 60 Hz.
Qualcomm hasn't yet announced the laptops that will be featuring this 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor, but details about them may be revealed during the livestream that's scheduled for September 4.
