Kylian Mbappé's Twitter Account Hacked, MBAPPE Token Released, Then Deleted

French football star Kylian Mbappé had his Twitter account hacked on Monday, with the attackers using it to promote a fake cryptocurrency token called “MBAPPE.”

The token, which was created on the Solana blockchain, saw its market cap surge to $464 million in just minutes. This rapid increase quickly attracted a large number of investors, some of whom were unaware that the token was fake.

However, this increase was short-lived, as within 47 seconds of reaching its high, the token’s value fell by 99%, leaving many investors with huge losses. The token’s market cap eventually settled at a meager $57,000.

Despite the token being fake, some traders did manage to benefit from the scheme. One trader bought 2 SOL (about $286) and sold it for 43,390 USDT ($43,390) in just a few minutes, timing the market’s peak perfectly.

However, not everyone was as fortunate. In one especially tragic scenario, a trader purchased more than 100,000 SOL tokens, only to watch the value plummet to $14,600 in less than an hour.

This incident highlights the risks of investing in unconfirmed cryptocurrencies, especially those that are being offered through compromised social media accounts. It also shows the increasing trend of hackers targeting high-profile individuals to carry out these types of scams.

The fake tweets were eventually deleted, but not before causing significant financial damage to unsuspecting investors.
