Sharge Disk Plus debuts as Kickstarter's thinnest magnetic external SSD

Sharge has made the Disk Plus official today (August 28, 2024) as a portable enclosure for an SSD along the same lines as the Lexar SL500, albeit touted to be much slimmer at just 0.24 inches in height despite packing its own MagSafe-style magnets.

The user can install either M.2 2242, M.2 2280 or M.2 2230 NVMe SSDs for up-to-10Gb/s data transfer speeds. The accessory has 2 USB-C ports: one for data transfers and another that can use an up-to-100W power source to keep the device to which it is connected charged at up to 85W.

TheShargeDisk Plus starts at $34.90 as a Kickstarter reward, whereas a 4TB SL500 is $289.99 on Amazon. Then again, you need an SSD to install into the former, not to mention an extra ~$4 for a bundle with the magnetic ring that will be necessary to stick it to the back of a non-metallic device.

The campaign has already attracted over $21,000 of backing despite seeking just $3,000 at the start of the campaign. Sharge currently projects that it will be able to start shipping the Kickstarter version of the Disk Plus from November 2024.
