An alternate edition of the Kew Gardens 50p may fetch up to £7,000. Could you possibly have this unique coin in your possession?

A popular TikTok user, @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 189,000 followers, explained the significance of this elusive coin. The prized Kew Gardens 50p is already well-known, but did you realise there's another version out there?

The Kew Gardens 50p was released in 2009 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the famous botanical gardens. Only 210,000 of the coins entered circulation, making them incredibly sought after.

The coin is easily identifiable thanks to the depiction of the Chinese pagoda on the reverse, and it's known to command upwards of £250 on eBay, yet certain circumstances have seen it garner even higher prices.

What really takes the cake is a gold variant of the 50p coin, valued at an astonishing £7,000.

In one of his videos, the TikTok enthusiast highlighted: "£7,000 for this 50p but only if it's gold. The ultra rare version of the Kew Gardens 50p was estimated to fetch between £5,000 and £6,000."

The coin in question is a PF 70 grade version, which represents the pinnacle of coin grading. Out of the 629 gold proof editions of the Kew Gardens 50p released to the public in 2009, this one emerged as a true collector's item, termed the "holy grail" by enthusiasts and has reportedly surged in value exponentially.

He added: "A similar auction five years ago saw the gold proof sell for £2,000, meaning it has shot up in value by 240%."

The clip has garnered dozens of likes and comments since it was shared recently, with one person asking: "Do you have this beautiful coin? " Others gushed over the design.
