A new 50p coin featuring an Atlantic Salmon is reportedly selling for "mega money" with some fetching up to £50 online.

The coin was released into circulation towards the end of last year, but it’s thought that not many of them have been minted compared to other coins.

Now, TikTok coin expert @thecoincollectoruk has revealed that these rare 50ps "are selling for £50 on eBay and Facebook coin collector groups".

This makes it the second most valuable 50p coin in circulation behind the Kew Gardens coin.

Speaking in the clip, the coin expert said: "It’s believed that the [version of the Salmon 50p] in circulation could have a mintage as low as half a million – making it one of the rarest 50p of all time.

"The hype around this coin keeps getting bigger, and with that the price increases."

He also said that the value of the Atlantic Salmon coin could rise to around £100.

However, the coin expert said the value could also plummet when the Royal Mint announces the mintage figures, if they turn out to be a lot higher than they are currently rumoured to be.

So, if you do find one in your change, you have a decision to make as to whether you’ll cash in now or keep it and hope the value continues to rise.

"Salmon fever is a real thing," one person commented on the video.

Another said: "I just sold 9 of them and have 10 on the way."

The ultra-rare Kew Gardens 50p was released into circulation in 2009, but only 210,000 were made.

The coin was first minted to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the famous London landmark.

The normal version can fetch as much as £250, and there is also a gold-proof version.

One of these gold versions recently sold for £7,000 at auction.
