Cybertruck FSD launch delayed as Tesla will first make it easier to park

Tesla's Cybertruck won't be unlocking theFull Self-Driving (Supervised) achievement this month, as Elon Musk originally inferred.

While explaining the nitty-gritty of Tesla's FSD 12.5 version adaption to run on vehicles with older Hardware 3 suite, Tesla's AI chief tipped its release date for the Cybertruck as well.

Instead of August, the Cybertruck FSD launch date has now been moved to some time in September. The first Cybertruck Foundation Series units rolled off the conveyor belts at Giga Texas for delivery last November, so a September release will mark 10 months of Cybertruck ownership without access to Tesla's self-driving feature.

That's despite the fact that the pickup is equipped with the most modern suite of heatedHW4 cameras and sensors that Tesla currently offers, but it has its reasons.

"Cybertruck will start with parking assistance features, given that it ain't exactly the easiest vehicle to park," said Tesla's driver-assist and AI department chief Ashok Elluswamy.

He also added that the parking assist feature for the Cybertruck will be rolling out as soon as this week. Prioritizing the self-parking aspect is a curious choice by Tesla, given that the electric pickup is its first vehicle with a 48V drive-by-wire system and rear wheel steering.

The Cybertruck's official 43.5ft (12.5m) turning radius is actually pretty impressive for its 223.7 inches (5,682 mm) length and 6,603 lb (2,995 kg) curb weight.

In the Cybertruck overview on its own website, Tesla boasts that it has a"better turning radius than most sedans," so its HW4 suite might be capitalized on to allow self-parking of the big Cybertruck in the tightest of spaces and busiest of places.

At least until Tesla figures out how to bring Full Self-Driving (Supervised) to its largest passenger car on public roads, that is.
