Earlier this year, reports emerged that AMD could launch both the vanilla Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 and Ryzen 9000 X3D variants together. Since, for the past two generations, AMD has followed a staggered approach with the 3D V-Cache variants releasing some months after the mainstream client CPU offerings, chances were low that Team Red would change that strategy this time around. This is exactly what happened in June when AMD released the regular Ryzen 9000 CPUs without any X3D parts.
However, we may only be a short period away from the official unveiling of the Ryzen 9000 X3D as references to the Ryzen 9000 X3D CPUs have been found on ASUS’ microsite for the just-released X870/X870E motherboards. The references were found in the source code by @momomo_us.
While there aren’t any exciting details apart from the mention of the Ryzen 9000 X3D CPUs, the mention of the Zen 5 X3D CPUs alongside the new X870, X870E, B850, and B840 boards could be a sign that AMD is going to release these CPUs soon.
Now that the initial review cycle of the Ryzen 9000 chips has come to a close, it is fair to say that neither the affordable Ryzen 5 9600X nor the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X gives gamers who are on Zen 4 any solid reason to upgrade. Sure, the Zen 5 CPUs do provide a marginal gaming performance boost over their Zen 4 counterparts, but anyone serious about gaming performance need not look any further than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D (Available on Amazon).
Keeping this in mind and considering that Intel Arrow Lakecould release in October and give Zen 5 a tough time in gaming, it is quite reasonable to assume that AMD will release the Ryzen 9000 X3D chips soon. AMD is reportedly holding a new event in October where the company is expected to announce new data center, workstation, and AI chips. So, we might see the new Ryzen 9000 X3D processors debut at that event.
That said, it is all just conjecture at this point. Nevertheless, with the launch of the Core Ultra 200 CPUs on the horizon, the next few months are shaping up to be rather exciting.
