Less than a month has passed since Xiaomi first introduced the Redmi Pad SE 4G. Unusually, the tablet debuted in India first, unlike the larger Redmi Pad Pro (curr. $235 on Amazon). Also, the Redmi Pad SE 4G is more than just a Redmi Pad SE with its cellular modem activated, despite its name.
Instead, the tablet is an entirely new device that shares only a few similarities with the existing Redmi Pad SE. Specifically, Xiaomi has equipped the newer tablet with a smaller 8.8-inch display that also has a lower pixel density, along with a significantly smaller battery capacity. Possibly reflecting these fundamental changes, Xiaomi has decided to re-brand the Redmi Pad SE 4G for its international release.
As the company's teaser images show, it will offer the tablet as the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 outside India. On top of that, it has decided to sell 4G and non-4G variants, which will be available as the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 and Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G, respectively. According to Xiaomi's various regional websites, the two tablets will officially reach the Eurozone and the UK on August 21, although pre-orders have already opened on Xiaomi's webshops for the following prices, all with complimentary Redmi Buds 4 Active earbuds and an official tablet cover:
