Democrats Still Quiet On Crypto as 2024 Party Platform Drops

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) unveiled its 2024 Party Platform on Sunday, outlining the party's priorities heading into the next election. Notably, the platform does not mention Bitcoin, crypto, or blockchain, in contrast to the Republican Party's platform.

The ninety-two-page document covers various topics such as lowering housing costs, tackling climate change, and making the wealthy and corporations "pay their fair share." It also includes praise for President Joe Biden's administration and its policies.

However, since the platform was written and passed before Biden dropped out of the 2024 race, it does not fully reflect the priorities of the party under a potential Harris administration.

Some observers, such as Cinneamhain Ventures partner Adam Cochran, believe the lack of crypto mentions in the DNC platform could indicate a subtle shift in the party's stance on crypto under Harris.

"For years we've had anti-crypto rhetoric, Warren shouting for an ‘anti-crypto army,’ and Treasury, OFAC, and the Fed going chokepoint claiming crypto is about money laundering," Cochrane said on Monday.

"Crypto doesn't need government handouts to succeed. It needs a non-hostile environment," he added.

In comparison, the Republican Party's platform, unveiled in July, includes a pledge to end the Biden administration's anti-crypto crackdown and opposition to the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).

Additionally, Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump made an appearance at the 2024 Bitcoin Conference, where he promised to establish a national "strategic Bitcoin stockpile" and fire crypto-skeptic SEC chairman Gary Gensler.
